The April 28 Coalition
[for Migrants’ and Refugees’ Rights and Welfare]
The April 28 Coalition [for Migrants’ and Refugees’ Rights and Welfare] is a broad Europe-wide formation composed of mainly grassroots organizations with a migration background, together with religious and non-governmental organizations, civil society formations, institutions, political parties, influencers, academics and concerned individuals.
It is united by the common objective to advance the rights and welfare of migrants (regular and irregular), immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced peoples, and that all people have the right for equal protection in the continent. The concrete campaign demands of the April 28 Coalition are for the States/Governments to:
Grant regularization and full citizenship rights for all migrants, immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced peoples, including irregular or undocumented migrants.
Provide health and other social services regardless of immigration status and address homelessness and food insecurity.
End immigration detention and deportation.
End the global inequalities — within and among nations
It was launched online on April 28 itself, the UN’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work, and was attended by 37 delegates, mostly from the different migrant and refugee organizations all over Europe. Currently it has grown into 72 Organizations and 18 Individuals.
Since it’s launching, a letter of petition echoing the demands were sent to different parliamentarians in various countries in Europe to solicit support and act on the demand presented. There is likewise an ongoing online petition and regular Online Forum-Protest.
The first online Protest focused on the general demands of the Coalition and was staged on May 23, 3PM (CET) (please view through this link).
The Second Forum-Protest was on May 30 3PM (CET), focusing on the Migrant Situations (please view through this link).
It is set to stage another online Forum-Protest on June 6, 3PM (CET) with the focus theme on Refugees’ Situation and the urgent demand for regularization and full citizenship rights among others. Live broadcast is here.
