About the Event

An evening with John Mullen

With the Yellow Vests movement and the successes of Rassemblement National (RN, formerly the Front National), everyone is talking about France. At the coming EU elections, voters are turning away from Emmanuel Macron’s technocrat government, which could lead to victories for the left and the right.

At the head of the left-wing movement is Jean-Luc Melechon’s La France Insoumise (LFI). Melenchon offered a clear left alternative to RN’s warmed up fascism and Macron’s neo-liberalism, and is expected to do well in the elections.

Yet Melechon is also facing criticism from the left and the right. He has been accused of being soft on nationalism. On the other hand, he has taken LFI out of the European Left, in part because of their continues support of SYRIZA.

One week after the EU elections, the LINKE Berlin Internationals are delighted to be able to organise an informal meeting with John Mullen from Paris. John is a long-standing anti-capitalist actvist and a supporter of LFI, who has offered some criticism of the party leadership (see, for example this article)

John has also contributed several articles to our Website, on the Yellow Vests and other subjects

This will be an informal meeting over a couple of drinks, but an excellent opportunity to talk to John about the meaning of the EU election results, and what this means for a possible reorientation of the international left
