Covid-19 A Socialist Response
Time & Location
About the Event
The Corona crisis has now lasted over a year and many of us are suffering the effects. 36% of adults have sleeping disorders, and 32% eating disorders as a result of the worry and stress. During the first lockdown, violence against women rose by 30%. Many people have lost their jobs and even their homes.
Not everyone has suffered from the virus. An Oxfam report found that17 of the top 25 most profitable US corporations, including Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Facebook, Pfizer, and Visa, were expected to make almost $85 billion more in 2020 than in previous years. Governments across the world have also used the necessary lockdowns as an excuse to crack down on social protests.
Meanwhile the main public face of opposition to the Covid measures has been a dubious collection of conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxxers and outright Nazis. Many of the rest of us have felt isolated at home and unable to resist either the government or the right-wing Corona deniers.
Who is responsible for the Corona crisis? How are the effects of Corona related to the more general crisis of capitalism? How do we find a just way out, where vaccines are available to everyone - not just the people, and countries, with the most money?
To address these questions, the Berlin LINKE Internationals invite you to an online meeting with virologist Rob Wallace, author of “Dead Epidemiologists: On the Origins of Covid-19” , Gizem Fesli from the Zero Covid initiative which campaigns for a left wing answer to the crisis and Vitor Guimarães, a national coordinator for the Homeless Workers Movement in Brazil.
The meeting will be livestreamed on theleftberlin.com at 7pm Berlin time on Wednesday, 7thMarch. You are all invited to join.
